Child Electrical Safety: How to Create a Safe Home?

Children's curiosity has no limits, but electrical hazards should. Learn how to protect your little ones.
To a child, a socket looks like a curious game. To a parent, it's a potential hazard.
In our homes in Kosovo, we often have loose cables or unprotected outlets. This guide helps you 'fortify' your home from electrical risks.
1. Tamper-Resistant Outlets
The modern solution is no longer plastic caps that children can pull out. Tamper-resistant outlets have internal shutters that only open when two prongs are inserted simultaneously.
Why are they better?
Even if a child tries to insert a screwdriver or key into one hole, the shutter won't open. This is the new standard we install in every child's room.
2. Cable Management
A lamp cord or phone charger can be a trip hazard or, worse, children can bite them. We suggest:
Use Decorative Conduits
Hide cables in wall-mounted conduits, making them unreachable and invisible.
Outlet Height
In renovations, we often suggest raising outlets to a height children can't reach until age 5-6.
3. The Role of RCD
If something goes wrong and a child comes into contact with electricity, the only lifesaver is the RCD in your panel. It cuts power in milliseconds before the shock becomes fatal.
Test the RCD once a month!
Press the 'Test' button on your panel. If the power doesn't shut off, your RCD is faulty and your family is not protected.
Get a Home Safety Audit.
We identify every potential hazard for your children and provide immediate solutions.
